— Dedicated Space for Scholarly Focus and Community —
Meaningful scholarship requires uninterrupted time, focused energy, and a supportive intellectual environment. Our quarterly Faculty Writing Retreats @ CIS provide faculty across the college with dedicated space and structure to advance ongoing research, finish major manuscripts, and connect with colleagues across disciplines.
Whether you are completing a book proposal, revising a peer-reviewed article, or formulating a new grant application, finding sustained time for writing during a demanding academic term can be an uphill battle. These quarterly retreats are intentionally designed to help you carve out protected hours away from daily administrative and teaching responsibilities.
The retreats offer:
- Structured, Uninterrupted Focus: A quiet, distraction-free environment engineered for deep work.
- Collegial Accountability: The shared momentum and quiet discipline of working alongside fellow researchers.
- Cross-Disciplinary Exchange: Informal opportunities over coffee and lunch to share ideas, discuss research trajectories, and build cross-college connections.
Each retreat, curated by CHASS faculty and hosted at the Center for Ideas and Society, balances substantial blocks of silent writing time with shared spaces for reflection and community.
