Two disciplinary perspectives- one topic!
Join Sherryl Vint (English) and Tom Cogswell (History) in a conversation on the truths- if any- to be gained from fantastic thinking.
Sherryl’s view: The distinction between fantasy and reality is never as firm as we might believe it to be, so fantasies often contain truth, and some of what passes for truth is fantasy.
Tom’s view: Fantasy writing can help open the past to us by re-imagining old, staid events and moments, provided they do not present “alternate” versions that distort the past entirely.
